There is a polite debate going on Inside-the-Beltway as well as on the presidential campaign about how exactly to give away the $700 billion that Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson is demanding as a bailout for the bankers and financiers who presided over last week’s economic meltdown. What hasn’t been visible is the shock and outrage that much of the public is feeling over this proposed looting of the public treasury. That, hopefully, will change on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. when protesters plan to gather (see announcement below) at Bowling Green Plaza, just south of Wall St.
With the world famous financial district as a prop and the eyes of the national and global media on us, those of us who live in New York can make visible the anger and concern so many people and we can do so at a strategic moment as Congress appears set to pass legislation by the end of the week before adjourning for the fall campaign season.
There is no central group organizing this event. But as the call to action that began circulating Monday afternoon noted, “Do whatever you can – make and distribute your own flyers, contact all your groups and friends. This crime is without precedence and we can’t be silent! What’s the point of waiting for someone else to organize a protest two months from now, long after the crime has been perpetrated?”

Why: To say we won’t pay for the Wall Street bailout
Everyone,
This week the White House is going to try to push through the biggest
robbery in world history with nary a stitch of debate to bail out the Wall
Street bastards who created this economic apocalypse in the first place.
This is the financial equivalent of September 11. They think, just like
with the Patriot Act, they can use the shock to force through the
“therapy,” and we’ll just roll over!
Think about it: They said providing healthcare for 9 million children,
perhaps costing $6 billion a year, was too expensive, but there’s
evidently no sum of money large enough that will sate the Wall Street
pigs. If this passes, forget about any money for environmental protection,
to counter global warming, for education, for national healthcare, to
rebuild our decaying infrastructure, for alternative energy.
This is a historic moment. We need to act now while we can influence the
debate. Let’s demonstrate this Thursday at 4pm in Wall Street (see below).
We know the congressional Democrats will peep meekly before caving in like
they have on everything else, from FISA to the Iraq War.
With Bear Stearns, Fannie and Freddie, AIG, the money markets and now this
omnibus bailout, well in excess of $1 trillion will be distributed from
the poor, workers and middle class to the scum floating on top.
This whole mess gives lie to the free market. The Feds are propping up
stock prices, directing buyouts, subsidizing crooks and swindlers who
already made a killing off the mortgage bubble.
Worst of all, even before any details have been hashed out, The New York
Times admits that “Wall Street began looking for ways to profit from it,”
and its chief financial correspondent writes that the Bush administration
wants “Congress to give them a blank check to do whatever they want,
whatever the cost, with no one able to watch them closely.”
It’s socialism for the rich and dog-eat-dog capitalism for the rest of us.
Let’s take it to the heart of the financial district! Gather at 4pm, this
Thursday, Sept. 25 in the plaza at the southern end of Bowling Green Park,
which is the small triangular park that has the Wall Street bull at the
northern tip.
By having it later in the day we can show these thieves, as they leave
work, we’re not their suckers. Plus, anyone who can’t get off work can
still join us downtown as soon as they are able.
There is no agenda, no leaders, no organizing group, nothing to endorse
other than we’re not going to pay! Let the bondholders pay, let the banks
pay, let those who brought the “toxic” mortgage-backed securities pay!
On this list are many key organizers and activists. We have a huge amount of
connections — we all know many other organizations, activists and
community groups. We know P.R. folk who can quickly write up and
distribute press releases, those who can contact legal observers, media
activists who can spread the word, the videographers who can film the
event, etc.
Do whatever you can — make and distribute your own flyers, contact all
your groups and friends. This crime is without precedence and we can’t be
silent! What’s the point of waiting for someone else to organize a protest
two months from now, long after the crime has been perpetrated?
We have everything we need to create a large, peaceful, loud
demonstration. Millions of others must feel the same way; they just don’t
know what to do. Let’s take the lead and make this the start!

Hi, I am a small business owner and I rely on these banks to fund my startup. if these banks go down, then so will my business. There are many other startups like mine and we will all close. The only businesses that will be left are the giant monopolies. By protesting, you are doing a big disfavor for smaller business.

Americans have two problems I have noticed after working there for a few years.
They bullshit each other a lot with a lot of confidence and slap each other on the back, after a while the problems build up, when the problem finally gets serious and they arrange someone to take the blame and pretend they didn’t expect the situation.
Actually they should have been proactively looking for the problems, putting out the fires before the fire burnt the house down. I saw two I.T. companies go down the drain due to this common American cultural problem.
Basically you guys shoot yourselfs in the foot.
They are not as smart as they hope they are. People in other countries where they have to fight like anything to get a job and climb the ladder like in Asia are cutthroat smarter than American’s as they have to be to survive.
Until you change your culture, your going down the drain, China will own you while you feed your rich with more cream desserts.

I agree with ‘concerned’ and outsider above. If the banks are not bailed out, many of the small businesses would wither and die and we might see more problems due to a slowing economy. We can raise the money again if we fight enough, but if we die protesting, we wont have enough to cover our graves !

I’ve heard the argument that while the $700 billion bailout is bitter medicine better to swallow it than risk total economic collapse and I can see its appeal. But what if throwing $700 billion at Wall Street doesn’t solve the underlying problem but only clears up the balance sheets of the people who created this mess and after a nice little run-up in the stock market, we’re back in this same mess six or twelve months from now?

To the small bussiness owner that feels that without a bailout, your businnes goes under. The system has always been rigged for you to go under! You do not qualify for any of the tax breaks, loans and other finacial tools large companies and corporations get to survive. Thats why well over 60 percent of small bussiness go under in the first year. That number jumps to 80 af five years. Furthermore, who do you think will bail out these corporations in taxes? Those small tax cuts you do see will go almost immediately. The loans are given at absorbent rates, and to people without a real plan to remain solvent and profitable (Just like every other type of credit issuied in the market). That hurts succesful bussiness that do have a plan by increasing intrest rates, while lowering the amount of credit you should be able to get in the long run. Lastly, I will tell you the same thing that I would tell big business. If every man women and child has to pay for this bailout (and the amount is going to almost surely be at LEAST a 20 thousand a year increase in taxes when its all said and done) how will the average person be able to buy anything from your bussiness.. Your screwed either way.
Finally, I totally agree that the time of protest is quickly drawing to a end. If this bill is passed in any form, as a former enlisted man in the US Navy, I will personnaly advocate violent insurrection by all! What the goverment and corporate america is doing to the average citizen is knw different from what a vampire does to its victim. It might well be the time to drive a stake through the heart of this beast, for reason and rational talk has done NOTHING so far.
If this bill is passed, I would suggest that every red blooded american grab his or her gun, rope, knife or any other implement they think will be needed, and we head on down to dc for a swift excution of all parties involved. The french slaughtered the rulling elite during thier revolution, and for some reason thier govermnt has never really forgotten it. It might well be time that ALL of them are put to death (regardless where they stand) to send a clear message for all future politicians. Since they have been working within the system this long, and never mentioned once that a time for violent revelotion is at hand, then all I can assume is that they are nothing but people used as vents to keep the people from exploding. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time with the blood of patriots, and its apparent that the only real patriots out there are online and internet radio and NOT in ANY position of power within the system to effect real change.
If this bill is passed, it will in effect nullify the constition, the balance of powere established in it, and the contract between the people and goverment. At that point, the only obligation is to ourselves and our families to re-establish a goverment that at least attempts to be representive of the people.
Its time to choose people. Its time for our representives in goverment to choose. Either the people we elected represent the intrest of the majority and the people that voted them into office, or they represent the people that contribute to thier election coifers, the special intrest groups, and are nothing more then paid for robots that are in truth NOT truly democratically elected, since they belive that small groups wants and desires trumps the welfare of the majority.

This is all planned. 700 billion bailout will work for a short time and get us used to idea of government bailing the economy out. Some time later the economy will threaten to fail again. At that point the US Gov will not have enough money to fix it, hence it will be a Global Problem. The entire world financial system will be at risk which will require all countries to participate in the global bailout. This will allow the quick ushering in of the single world economy and the always planned new world order. Protesters will disappear to detention camps all over america and be gassed to death. The illuminati have planned this all along, the media is helping to brainwash everybody. They create a problem and miraculously at the same time create a candidate that can “change ” everything and comfort the fools, “us”. Spitzer was onto these crooks in wall street and look what happened to him just before he was able to catch the bastards. Charles Rangel objected to bail out of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, now he is being eliminated. Be prepared to be arrested tomorrow because the NYPD has orders to disperse any protests by any means available. The illuminati already have their plan for the cataclysm for the earth in dec 2012. This is all a distraction. We need to pay attention to the movements of these people because they know the safe havens. Recall the demonstrations in Yugoslavia, they brought about change because there were hundreds of thousands of citizens in the streets day after day after day. Patriots it will take more than a half day demonstration tomorrow to get anything changed. Maybe it will be a bloody good start and galvanize other citizens to start listening to alternative sources for the truth and not the media. A simple 1/4 of 1% tax on all Wall Street trading could fix the problem. Rep. De Fazio says it’s been done several times in the past. But our legislative puppets won’t do that, because that won’t serve their real agenda.

There’s a clause in the bail out bill that says that what Secretary Paulson decides, cannot be overturned by a court. Is he our dictator? Rememb er he was head of Goldman Sachs before becoming Sec. of Treasury. We are in trouble. Small businesses will go down? Depression? All the difficulties of poverty. I think these big guys are not going to stop. I think, no matter what, they will now, since they are assuming power, take everything else in this country. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Yes there will be many who will suffer but they will be replaced by those who were responsible, lived within their means and have money. Let the market dictate prices, let house prices and other asset prices fall to reflect their true market value.
Those caught out will suffer but those prudent enough to ahve seen this will then rightlfully step in and mop up the pieces. There will be a transfer of wealth to those who deserve to be rewarded for their prudence and there will be suffereing for those who were greedy and took the risk. This is how it was and how it now should be.
Of couse, amng the sufferes will be Paulsona nd Bernanke’s friends in wall street, but so be it.

We need a clear out of incumbents in DC. They are all compromised by donations to their re election campaigns, they are all beholden to special interests, lobbyists etc. They do not represent the people they represent themselves and their ego. It is ludicrous that a person can create an entire lifetime career as a member of congress. There should be strict term limits with a maximum of two terms and then never allowed to be elected to office again done and gone. Who cares that the new members do not understand the intricate workings of government. Perhaps that is a good thing. They will soon learn to cut past all the BS and get to the heart of the problems and act on them.
I have never owned a gun although I was in the Navy for ten years, now I feel it is necessary to have some means to defend myself.

It’s true, we have allowed this to happen. By our inaction, unconcern, and apathy, we have allowed ourselves to be blindfolded, and hogtied, and we smile and praise them as they do it.
The public education system has set us up to be the race of ignorant blind people we are. Everything useful I have learned about government, life, the economy, and politics, I have had to learn on my own, in my own free time. If you approach a common high school and mutter the words, Rumsfeld, Abu Ghraib, The Patriot Act, or even $700 billion bailout, you can only expect blank stares or unconcerned laughter as they return to there self-important social lives. Make no mistake, we have allowed this to happen. Since the begining. All of our complaints can be led back to our compliancy. Our government, at its core, is a good one.
The constitution is a great document, but in order for it to work properly, we must speak out when it is being stretched to call the most corrupt abominations constitutional. No, matter what your for or against, what party you have aligned yourself with, pro-life, pro-choice, pro-war, anti-war, know what your standing up for and stand for it. Our leaders respond most to media, use this to your advantage, the media will air the things that are most profitable to them, if a majority of people could get involved, and allow themselves to be heard the media will reflect that, it’s more profitable. Half the battle is to stop blaming the government and learn to point the finger back at ourselves.

Yes, I will agree that the government is responsible for there own actions, actions which we have no control over, but, we have sat quietly, since the beginning. Our forefathers gave us the power to keep the government in check, with their words and their actions in gaining us the freedoms we once had. These words are still accessable, the government has made no movement in barring us from their words, their histories, or even discussions like this. There is no need. We have poisoned ourselves, by ignoring this wealth of information. There have always been those unblinded to this information and they have lain quiet also, playing sheep. I have never seen more than a paragraph in history books on, James Madison, Benjamin Frankilin, Patrick Henry, and many others when we shoud be reading there books to understand economy, and reading the words of our forefathers. You may blame the government for there actions but also blame the people for there inaction.

Time for states to begin seceding from the union. States like California and Texas can easily go it alone. Others will need to group up, like the Great Lakes States. In the end, the USA has become unmanageable, corrupt, and so polarized that there’s little hope of ever having any real reform. Better to break up now, institute treaties and perhaps a common protectorate, and allow the regions we’ve arranged ourselves into to govern themselves. One day we might be able to reunite, but nothing is served by continuing down our current path.
The only way to save America is to break it up.

how do we even know they really need a bailout? do we get to look at their books? the bank sure looks at mine if i go for a loan.
i like the idea that someone had about bailing out the people who owe the banks money. i mean then the banks get paid and the people keep their houses. then those people could work out a deal to pay what they could, maybe for longer.
when the japanese economy went south, a few years back, all the ceos took paycuts, so no one would get laid off.
i don’t think we can fix this until every one can look in the mirror and say to themselves that those sworn to unhold the law have become lawless.

This is just the begining…I wont matter what we want or don’t want. They have the power to rob and steal from all that we have worked for. This country is the greatest but not because of the administration or the politions they WE supposedly elect in to office. It is great because people do not kill each other in the streets over being a muslim or jew or chatholic…becuse for the most part all the hard working blacks, whites, asians and arabs…ect..ect…get along on a daily basis…just living thier lives for theselves and their families….

Everybody has their beliefs….I have mine and am sure of them. Though it is not right to impose those upon anyone..teach yes…impose , no. Which is what this administration is trying to do now and in years past. To invent terror in the hearts of the people here in the USA as a way of controlling them. If it is not one thing it is another. The fact that we live in a supposed “free market” “capitalisim”…for who ? The working People of this country only but not the owners of these huge multicorp macheins? Why do I have to pay for thier losses, they do not pay for mine. I have felt no ill effects yet of this problem, perhaps I will but the truth is if they screwed up they should have to pay the price….rather than getting monster bounes befor they bail out as well as keep their jobs.

Yes…I AM Pissed…..You know, I just cannot figure out, why, if just one woman like me, could stand on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, Ca., 7 days a week for nearly 2 yrs, in order to fight the “powers that be” in those days, and the people I was fighting in those days was just the stupid pathetic power monger dog catchers, who were saying that all dogs must be leashed, giving the poor little dogs no freedom and they were really pissing off dog owners as they were not only issuing unjust, and unwarranted monetary tickets, but actually, opening peoples’ gates and letting dogs out, so they could haul them away to the pound and get even more money.
So, ho, ho, it’s off to work, I go….I collected nearly 400,000 signatures, in rain, hail, sleet and more in order to petition before a judge, to get a free-roaming doggie park in order to give some semblence of freedom for well deserving dogs…this dog park is still in existance in Emeryville.
So, after that long-winded explanation….here is my point. Over the years, I have attempted time and time again, to get people to realize that WE have the POWER, not the stupid assholes running this country into the crapper…but our apathy and good men/women doing nothing has created this evil out-of-control monstrous entity, stripping us of all our birthrights and inalienable constitution rights.
The solution is SO DAMN SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!! Here is how we the people can do it. JUST FOR 2 days a week, every single man, woman, and child in the WORLD (NOT EVEN JUST THE U.S.)….BUY NOTHING….do NOT work….NO tv/games/electricity….NO cooking…NO driving….NO gas usage…no travel…NO shopping…No radios…NO purchasing of unnecessary name brand shit, which all our kids are addicted to and hypnotized into buying/wearing.
Gee! Just think, perhaps a loving day playing games, meditating, praying, playing acoustical music and singing together….perhaps even hugging a tree, walking in nature together, reading books, playing cards….Maybe your family would become more loving, tighter, together and supportive from this experience and you might even be able to look into a mirror for the first time and see yourself as the puppet/fool, being led to your own slaughter/funeral.
JUST IMAGINE how the greed mongers who live off our foolishness, steal our money before we even get our damn paycheck, and live off all of our hurry up and get nowhere fast and do absolutely nothing important or anything of true value in the development and/or evolution of our souls, and like a vampire, suck all our life blood LOST billions of our money, just by us taking 2 days off and NOT supporting these despicable tyrants.
I’ll tell you all WHAT!!!!…all their ears, eyes, and attention would be on us and they would be kissing our asses and doing whatever they could to do what we wanted so they can still fill up their fat back pockets and suck our life blood as long as we allow them to!!!
I KNOW, WITHOUT A DOUBT, they would listen to what we have to say….it is REALLY SOOOOO SIMPLE, but this being said…there really are too many of you people who are scared and hemmed in by your own fears, your own cowardice, your laziness, addiction to toys, and being busy with bullshit, not to mention apathy. Does anyone out there know what the H.A.A.R.P. facility in Alaska is? Did you know that, whenever the FEMA act and Patriot act is enacted that they can come to your home, throw you all out on your asses, take over your home, your land, your stuff and there isn’t a damn thing you can do legally?
